PURPOSE: To solve a problem that light condensing and diffusing control in the longitudinal direction of a light source is not performed though such control in a direction (up-and-down direction) orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of the light source is performed in the conventional illuminator. CONSTITUTION: This illuminator is equipped with a light transmissive optical member 5 emitting illuminating luminous flux made incident from light emitting units 2, 3 and 4. By integrally providing reflection parts 5d and 5d' on both end sides of the optical member and relatively moving the light emitting units and the optical member, a luminous flux component reflected and emitted by the reflection part out of the illuminating luminous flux emitted from the optical member is increased or decreased so as to change the irradiation range of the illuminating luminous flux.
