PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for transmitting position information of a mobile communication terminal lost when turning on a battery power is provided to grasp a current position of the terminal by transmitting position information to a BTS(Base Transceiver Station) using an auxiliary battery with a small capacity when a power is turned off. CONSTITUTION: A voltage level sensing circuit(16) continuously transmits voltage information of a battery(15) to a CPU(11) after the voltage of the battery(15) is less than a certain set voltage. The CPU(11) checks whether the voltage of the battery(15) is less than a level for turning off the power of a mobile communication terminal. If the voltage of the battery(15) is less than the level for turning off the power of the mobile communication terminal, the CPU(11) reads a memory(12) and judges a last use time of the mobile communication terminal. If the last use time is before a predetermined time, the CPU(11) judges that the mobile communication terminal is lost. The CPU(11) operates a battery switching circuit(13) so that a power of an auxiliary battery(14) is supplied to the mobile communication terminal and a power of the battery(15) is blocked. After the mobile communication terminal is converted into a loss mode, a position information generating circuit(17) periodically checks a current position and transmits checked information to an RF(Radio Frequency) module(18), and the RF module(18) transmits transmitted information to a BTS by wireless.
