System and method for updating computer content level filtering software. In a computer content level filtering system, which normally automatically updates itself with the latest content to filter, a method is provided which ensures that during an emergen cy situation where the update communication channel is overloaded or unavailable, possibl y as a result of a denial of service type attack, the content level filtering software can still be automatically updated, thus ensuring that the emergency can be more effectively managed and contained.
