PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen generator and its operation method which do not emit a residual gas of a PSA(pressure swing adsorption apparatus) wastefully after purifying hydrogen and enable to recover energy rationally. SOLUTION: In the hydrogen generator which is composed of a reformer 1 provided with a catalyst layer and a burner to form a hydrogen-rich reforming gas from a hydrocarbon raw fuel and a steam, a steam separator 4 provided to supply the steam to the reformer, an exhaust gas cooler 7 to generate the steam by heating the water in the steam separator with a burned exhaust gas from the burner, a compressor 2 to pressurize the reforming gas, the PSA 3 to separate and purify hydrogen from the reforming gas so as to supply the residual gas after carrying out a separation and removal treatment of hydrogen in the PSA to the burner for the reformer and burn it, a burning chamber 6 in which a part of the residual gas is supplied separately from the burner and burned is provided and the burned exhaust gas in the burning chamber is introduced into the exhaust gas cooler 7, together with the burned exhaust gas of the burner. |
