PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power transmission device for an electric car for preventing heat loss from increasing due to a low rotation high torque state of the electric motor 1. SOLUTION: A planetary gear mechanism 3 is interposed in a power transmission path, and one of a first element 3d of the planetary gear mechanism 3 connected with the electric motor 1 and a second element 3b of the planetary gear mechanism 3 connected with a drive wheel via a speed reduction gear train 4 and a differential gear 2 is connected with a third element 3a of the planetary gear mechanism 3 via a joint device 7 switchable to a direct connecting state and a sliding state. When the electric motor 1 becomes the low rotation high torque state, the joint device 7 is switched into the sliding state and the low rotation high torque state of the electric motor 1 is avoided.
