A method for preparing a highly active photocatalyst, characterized in that it comprises subjecting the surface of a zinc sulfide product to an oxidizing treatment with hydrogen peroxide to modify it. The oxidizing treatment is preferably carried out in an aqueous basic solution; and a method for treating hydrogen sulfide, characterized in that the highly active photocatalyst is added to an aqueous basic solution containing hydrogen sulfide to thereby recover hydrogen and sulfur. The above photocatalyst is a novel catalyst which exhibits high activity, is inexpensive and has a long useful life, and thus can be used for generating hydrogen from hydrogen sulfide efficiently with low energy consumption.
|
