The machine for forming a longitudinal weld (2) in a moving tube (3) of plastic film has heated welding belts (14, 15) which are mounted on rollers (25 -28) in the same way as a conveyor belt. A sensor (37) measures the speed at which the tube moves over a format tube (6) and the data is fed to a control unit (38) for regulating the speed of rotation of the rollers.
