The invention relates to a method and model for modeling an elimination phase of a nitrogen oxide (NOx) accumulating catalytic converter (12') of an internal combustion engine (1), especially of a motor vehicle. Said NOx accumulating catalytic converter (12') is subdivided into an oxygen (O2) accumulator and a nitrogen oxide (NOx) accumulator, and a reducing agent mass flow (msrg), which acts upon the O2 accumulator and the NOx accumulator, is determined. In order to model an elimination phase of the NOx accumulating catalytic converter (12') reliably, precisely and with the least amount of complexity, the invention provides that the O2 accumulator is modeled using a first integrator for oxygen (O2), and the NOx accumulator is modeled using a second integrator for nitrogen oxides (NOx), and the first integrator and the second integrator are proportionately subjected to the action of the reducing agent mass flow (msrg) according to a distribution factor (fatmsre), whereby the distribution factor (fatmsre) is determined according to the O2 accumulator contents (mo2sp) and to the NOx accumulator contents (mnosp) of the NOx accumulating catalytic converter (12'). |
