PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to form domains with different pre-tilt directions by a single rubbing process for orientation films and expand the viewing angles by using compensation films having smallest index of refraction in the rubbing directions. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display includes first and second substrates(1,4) facing to each other, first and second orientation films(3,6) formed on the first and second substrates facing to each other, a liquid crystal layer(7) implanted between the first and second orientation films, first and second compensation films(8,9) respectively disposed on the other outer sides of the first and second substrates, and first and second polarization plates(11,12) formed on the first and second compensation films, wherein at least either one of the first and second orientation films is rubbed, at least more than two areas having different pre-tilt angles are included between the first and second orientation films, and the rubbing directions of the first and second compensation films have indexes of refraction smaller than perpendicular directions thereof. |
