The method involves collecting rainwater in a drop tube (1) into which a small pipe (4) protrudes to a blockage (3) and that leads out and down at a higher point, e.g. at a bend (10). The pipe contains a seal (5) through which the pipe passes. The transparent pipe extends from above the seal to a water wheel (6) driving a generator (7) to produce energy.
