PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for producing a nano tube are provided to achieve the single wall nano tube stably, to diversify the shape of the nano tube, and to improve the yield of the nano tube. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for producing a nano tube comprises a vacuum chamber(1); a fixing cap(10) for fixing an end of a graphite supply rod; a linear translation part(20) penetrating the vacuum chamber to be connected to the fixing cap for moving the graphite supply rod; a tubular electrode(30) for applying a high voltage and circulating cooling water; a cooling part(40) connected with the electrode for absorbing the resistance heat of the graphite supply rod; a guide part(50) penetrating the cooling part for guiding the graphite supply rod; a rod shaped electrode(60) spaced from the graphite supply rod and having polarity contradictory to that of the graphite supply rod; an isolation film(70) for collecting nano tubes formed by an electric discharge between the graphite supply rod and the rod shaped electrode; and a flexible cable(80) for stably conducting an electric current to the graphite supply rod during the translation thereof.
