An intraocular lens assembly (10) for use in the phakic or aphakic eye is provided. In the preferred embodiment, the intraocular lens assembly (10) is suitable for the correction of myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism. The lens assembly (10) has a lens having a circumferential edge, and a first haptic (14) and a second haptic (14), which extend from the edge of the lens. Each of the haptics (14) has a first leg (16) extending from the lens edge to a distal end, and a second leg (16) extending grom the lens edge to distal end, and a transverse member (18) extending between the distal ends of each first and second leg (16). The transverse member (18) can be substantially straight or bowed inward toward the lens. Each leg (16) has a footplate (FP) at its distal end. Each leg of each haptic (14) may be in inwardly bowing, straight, and outwardly bowing. Additionally, each leg (16) may have the same or different shape from the other legs (16) of the first and second haptics (14) are inwardly bowing. |
