Specimens stored in a magazine are distributed to a group of treatment positions, e.g. multistainers, by specimen carriers. The distribution is controlled by selecting the shortest paths to the treatment positions. This can be achieved using mathematical modelling or by arranging the treatment stations in a sequence that minimizes the paths.
