An escalator device moving a plurality of steps (2) connected to an endless chain (8), wherein a moving path (23a) of connection parts (C1) of the steps (2) to the chain (8) is positioned on the outerside of the outer peripheral rotating path of the teeth of a sprocket (62) in a zone where the chain (8) meshes with the sprocket (62), whereby the number of teeth of the sprocket need not be set at the multiples of the number of chain pitches between the steps and the chain connection parts, and a degree of freedom for selection of the sprocket is increased, a sprocket smaller than a conventional sprocket can be used, and a thickness dimension of the escalator device can be reduced.
