The method involves using at least one time slot for transmission of useful message or data to send and/or receive at least one measurement signal on the transmission path between the equipment to be located and at least one base station different from that in the cell occupied by the equipment. The signal transition time is detected and evaluated. Independent claims are also included for the following: an arrangement for determining the position of at least one user equipment in a radio communications system.
