The access control device has a pair of transport devices (22,24,26; 40,42,44,46,48,24,26) for transporting objects from 2 different input points (18,20) on the outside of the secure area to a point on the inside of the secure area, via a control zone (28), e.g. an X-ray examination machine, positioned downstream of a convergence point between the transport devices.
