Circular thermoplastic filaments are extruded from melt and cooled. To deform their cross sections, they are subjected to external loading. Forces and/or heat are applied. They are buckled by stuffing constriction. The ruffled threads are released and wound onto a spool. An Independent claim is included for equipment carrying out the method. A spinning unit (1) extrudes the filaments (2) and a ruffler (5) buckles them. They are spooled (6) following release. The spinning nozzle (9) has a number of bores (10). The deformation blade (3) operates in the run of thread between spinning unit and ruffler.
