New aconitic acid derivatives useful as ultraviolet absorbers, fluorescent dyes, marker dyes, optical brighteners and intermediates for pharmaceutical, veterinary or plant protection agents

Aconitic acid derivatives (I) are new. Aconitic acid derivatives of formula (I), excluding dimethyl 2-methoxycarbonylmethyl-bicyclo(2,2,1)hept-5-ene-2,3-dicarboxylate, are new: R<7> = H, Me, aminomethyl or benzyl; R<8> = H or alkylamino; X+Y = CR<2>R<3>, or X is R<2> and Y is R<3>; R<1> = H, Me, aminomethyl or benzyl; R<2> = H or optionally substituted amino; R<3> = H or optionally substituted aryl; R<4> = alkoxy or alkylamino; R<5> = alkoxy, alkylamino or aryloxy; and R<6> = alkoxy or alkylamino; alternatively, R<7>+R<8> is a bond, or R<7> forms a lactam ring with R<6> and/or R<8> forms a lactam ring with R<5> and/or R<4> form a lactam ring with R<1> and/or R<5> forms a lactone ring with R<3>. An Independent claim is also included for a process for preparing (I).
