The gas container for a motor vehicle air bag has a casing (1) with outlet holes (5,8) for gas stored or generated in the casing. The casing has a divider wall (3) to temporarily separate the gas from the outlet holes. The divider wall is retained by shear pins (18) to release it under set loading. The holes in the air bag and-or the through openings in the plate form a flow limiting opening for the gas.
