<p>A system and method are provided for collecting, storing and retrieving ownership information for personal assets including works of art, and rightful ownership insurance policies for personal assets. Ownership certificates may be issued based on the information collected in the database. Seperate rightful ownership insurance policies may be written based on the collected ownership information for each asset. The ownership certificates include information for identifying the artwork and may further include authentication information for facilitating authenticating the certificate, the work of art or both. The ownership certificates may also be ussued in a street name to preserve the anonymity of the current owner. In addition, purchase processes may use a network based platform to facilitate collecting information, negotiation between buyers, consignors and sellers. In addition, the platform may be used to enhance the reputation of works of art being sold on on-line auctions, even where the reputation of the on-line auction itself is lousy.</p> |
