The supply of a clock signal from a clock generating circuit to a line sensor is interrupted in a standby state where an image reader is ready to read a document. Therefore, the supply of the clock signal requires no power. The interruption of the supply of the clock signal to the line sensor results in a decrease in dark current by heat generated by the line sensor and in EMI. It follows that noise included in data on the read image decreases and that image quality improves. Since only the supply of the clock signal to the line sensor is interrupted in the standby state, the time required for the line sensor to warm up is very short, so that the reading of a document can be started upon the reception of an instruction to read the document. This results in an improvement in the operability of the image reader.
|
