PURPOSE: An electron gun of a cathode ray tube is provided to enhance focus uniformity and screen characteristic by suppressing electron beam widening and hollow increase near the center of the screen. CONSTITUTION: An electron gun of a cathode ray tube comprises triple cathodes(27), a first electrode(21) for controlling an electron beam from the cathodes(27), a second electrode(22) spaced from the first electrode(21) for accelerating the electron beam, and a third electrode(23) and a fourth electrode(24) forming a front end focus lens. The first electrode(21) includes triple electron beam passage holes. On the side of the first electrode(21) facing the second electrode(22), a vertically long slit is allocated around the each of the passage holes. The second electrode(22) includes triple electron beam passage holes. On both sides of the first electrode(21) facing the first electrode(22) and the third electrode(23), a horizontally long slit is allocated around the each of the passage holes.
