Method of providing quality of service in mobile telecommunication networks

In a third generation telecommunications network, quality of service can be provided to a mobile node in a foreign network which has a correspondent node in a home network. A quality of service enquiry message is sent from the correspondent node 24 to the home network then from the home network to the mobile node 28. A quality of service response message is sent from the mobile node to the home network by the same route as the enquiry message. A response message is only sent from the home network to the correspondent node after receipt of the quality of service response message from the mobile node. The enquiry message may be sent by end to end addressing, and the response by hop-to-hop addressing. The quality of service may use resource reservation (RSVP) protocol.
