Foodstuffs are transported upwards by vacuum from a lower washing unit filled with liquid, to an upper collection unit (8). An apparatus for the combined washing and transport of foodstuffs, especially vegetables, fruit and salads, comprises a washing unit at the bottom which is fillable with liquid, a collection unit at the top with means for creating an vacuum inside it, an upright connecting part (7) between the washing and collection units for sucking foodstuffs up from the collection unit and washing them, a dewatering device for the foodstuffs, and a discharge arrangement for the foodstuffs. An Independent claim is also included for a combined washing and transport method using this apparatus.
