PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for coating a thermoplastic resin by laser which can form a coat layer by easily and firmly applying a coating material to the surface of the thermoplastic resin. SOLUTION: The coating material 2 is placed on a thermoplastic resin member 1, and on the top of them, a light transmitting member 3 is set as a weight. Then the coating material 2 is irradiated by the laser 5 from a laser module 4. Thereupon, the heat generated owing to the laser absorbed by the coating material 2 is conducted to the thermoplastic resin member 1 and melts the surface of the thermoplastic resin member 1, resulting in attaching the coating material 2 to the surface of the thermoplastic resin member 1. By peeling the light transmitting member 3, the coat layer 7 is formed on the surface of the thermoplastic resin member 1 with the coating material 2 adhered.
