PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalytically active material excellent in solvent and heat resistances, e.g. a metal oxide or a Lewis acid. SOLUTION: The composition contains a metal compound carried on a crosslinked body of a high molecular compound having a condensable functional group which exhibits a crosslinking function. Monomers which exhibit this property include monomers of formulae [1] and [2] (where R2 to R6 are each H, methyl or the like and R1 and R4 are each a compound having a double bond). A typical example represented by formula [1] or [2] is glycidyl acrylate. Osmium dioxide, chromium oxides such as Cr2O3, cobalt oxide or the like is used as a metal oxide and a combination of iron, chromium, platinum or the like and halogen, sulfonic acid or the like is used as a Lewis acid of a metal atom.
