PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating rod which does not cause cracks to occur on a coating film. SOLUTION: Protuberances 30 and recesses 32 are alternately formed on the outer surface of a coating rod 12. Since one protuberance 30 comprises one flat part 36 and a pair of round parts 34 present at both sides of the flat part 36 and does not contain a corner part, the concentration of residual stress during the formation of a coating film 38 is suppressed, preventing the occurrence of cracks.
