PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handpiece for a laser surgical knife the adjustment of which does not cause troublesomeness and fault for an operator who must regulate a flow rate meter to vary assist gas flow rate, confirming to a case of a disease. SOLUTION: The handpiece 3 has a gas escape aperture 9 which can regulate assist gas flow rate coping with the kind of a chip 1. For example, when the screw length (a) of the chip 1 is long, the gas escape aperture is closed and assist gas flows a lot out of the tip of the chip. On the other hand, when the screw length (a) is short, assist gas is escaped from the gas escape aperture 9 and the assist gas flow rate falls.
