PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a garbage treating method and garbage treating device which are capable of giving rise to dissolution, sterilization, moisture evaporation and volume reduction to about one tenth in garbage by suppressing its putrefaction and utilizing the materials formed by neutralizing the residue as fertilizers and a feed for domestic animals. SOLUTION: This treatment of the garbage consists in mixing and agitating a liquid mixture composed of acetic acids of large quantity components and alcohols of small quantity components within a garbage dissolving vessel internally having freely rotatable and freely oscillatable agitating vanes to give rise to the dissolution, deodorization. sterilization, moisture evaporation and volume reduction and to form strongly acidic slurry-like dissolved matter and discharging the same or adding a strong alkali to the strongly acidic slurry-like dissolved matter at the point of the time the dissolved matter is formed and discharging the same as the neutral or alkaline residue. The garbage dissolving vessel has a garbage feeding port annexed with a cap and a steam discharge port having a deodorizing filter both its upper part and a dissolution residue discharge port in its lower part and has either of a high-pressure air feeding means for supplying air bubbles to the slurry-like dissolved matter stored in the dissolving vessel or a heater for heating the slurry-like dissolved matter stored in the dissolving vessel.
