PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformly wash milled rice without stagnating the milled rice within a rice storage container of a rice washer which removes the bran on the surface of the milled rice. SOLUTION: A rice washing process step is started by feeding a prescribed amount of the milled rice 1 into the rice storage container 5 and driving the rotary vanes 21 which are freely rotatably disposed in the rice storage container 5 by a drive means 23. In the rice washing process step, the rotary vanes 21 press the milled rice 1 to the sidewall of the rice storage container 5, by which the circulation to rise the milled rice 1 and to move the same to the approximate center of the rice storage container 5 while rotating on the sidewall of the rice storage container 5 is repeated. A controller 24 is constituted to control the drive means 23 in such a manner that the rotary vanes 21 rotate and stop during the rice washing process step.
