PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain the shape balance of a left and a right side plates provided in a reel body in a double bearing type reel for fishing and improve gripping holding properties and winding properties of the reel during fishing operations. SOLUTION: This double bearing type reel for fishing is obtained by forming the outer peripheral shape of the side plates 2 and 3 provided on the left and right sides of the reel body 1 for supporting a spool 4 into a similar shape such as a circular shape and forming the outer peripheral shape of the side plate 3 without having a handle 6 to a small shape so as to be located in the outer peripheral shape of the side plate 2 having the handle 6.
