PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the writing time of a character by utilizing a font cache effectively thereby making the character generation processing efficient. SOLUTION: At the time of idling where no print data 1 is inputted, a cache control section 12 performs compression processing of a bit map font on a font cache 5. At the time of use, the compressed font is regenerated to an original bit map at a write processing section 10 and transferred to a page memory 6. At the time of compression processing, the bit map font is decomposed into parts and data defining the pattern of parts is shared between parts and between fonts. Rectangular parts, i.e., lateral bars and longitudinal bars of a decomposed character, can be recovered to the original shape by respective affine conversion matrixes using identical pattern data. A rectangle becoming a part sharable been characters is decomposed and affine conversion is applied thereto. |
