SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR POSITIONING MOBILE TERMINAL IN MOBILE TELECOMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A system and method for positioning a mobile terminal in a mobile telecommunication system is provided to measure a relative direction for an MS(Mobile Station) with a BS(Base Station) in the center and to estimate the location of the MS. CONSTITUTION: A BS obtains differences between the RSSIs(Received Signal Strength Indicators) of peripheral pilot signals and the output gain values of sector antennas corresponding to the pilot signals for all directions(511). The BS averages the obtained differences, obtains average values, and calculates dispersion using the obtained average values(513). Then the BS extracts a direction(&thgr;) at which the calculated dispersion becomes the minimum(515). Finally the BS filters the value of the extracted direction(&thgr;) and determines the final direction(517).
