PURPOSE: A composition for the protection of keratinous fibers obtained by coating at least one leave-in composition selected from ceramides and glycoceramides on keratinous fibers as a pretreatment composition prior to chemical treatment is provided. Therefore, the composition protects hair from damage induced by chemical treatment and permits hair to have styling characteristics, feeling and appearance. CONSTITUTION: The composition for the protection of keratinous fibers comprises at least one compound chosen from ceramides and glycoceramides, at least one cationic polymer, and at least one amphoteric polymer, wherein ceramides and glycoceramides are selected from natural and synthetic ceramide, natural and synthetic pseudo-ceramide and natural and synthetic neoceramide and the natural and synthetic ceramide has the following formula 1: R1CON(R4)CH(R3)CH(R5)OR2.
