PURPOSE: Provided are a preparation method of a catalyst for producing ethylene polymer in high yield and a preparation method of ethylene polymer using the catalyst. By using the catalyst, an ethylene polymer with sufficiently high molecular weight and good physical property can be prepared in high yield. CONSTITUTION: The catalyst comprises a main catalyst mixture consisting of an organic Mg compound, an organic Al compound, a Ti compound and a V compound activated by a heat treatment; and an organic Al compound as a cocatalyst. The process for producing ethylene polymer by using the catalyst comprises heat treating a polymerization main catalyst mixture consisting of an organic Mg compound, an organic Al compound, a Ti compound and a V compound as a main catalyst, followed by injecting it into a polymerization solution in which an organic Al compound as a cocatalyst is dissolved; and solution-polymerizing at the temperature of 20-320 deg.C and under the pressure of 1-800 atm.
