摘要 Wave-guide (3) for light generation by a non-linear effect produced in a non-linear and polarized material (1) is fabricated by periodic and spatial modulation of the non-linearity (2) of the material and implanting light ions in either order. Visible or invisible light (5) is generated in the wave-guide according to the modulated spatial period lambda . Preferred Features: The modulated lattice of spatial modulation length lambda is produced in the material (1) by applying an electric field on a mask (or an electrode) disposed on the material (1) The material (1) has ferroelectric or other properties. Ion implantation produces a flat wave-guide and a channel wave-guide. The light ions are hydrogen, helium or other light ions. The channel wave-guide can be produced by chemical action or etching. The wave-guide can be single-mode or multi-mode. An Independent claim is given for a channel wave-guide produced by the above process using a periodically polarized material selected from KTiOPO4, LiNbO3, KNbO3, BaTiO3, LiTaO3, LiB4O7 and beta-BaB2O4. The addition of mirrors at the ends of the channel wave-guide allows light conversion efficiency to be improved.
