A tile cutter has a conventional support bed (3) with a fixed end stop (23) to hold the tiles and with a cutter sliding over the tile on an overhead rail. The depth of cut is set by a movable stop (17a) coupled to a movement control (14) with a graduated scale (25a). The operator is able to select the width of the off cut on the scale without having to mark the tile itself. The movement control has two parallel bars (15a, 15b) that slide into parallel holes in the base of the cutter. The movable stop can be fitted with an angle setting control to cut sloping edges on tiles.
