PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling a refrigerator capable of reducing a power consumption by accelerating a rotational speed of a compressor when the refrigerator is a state difficult to be cooled therein or decelerating the speed of the compressor when the refrigerator is stable therein in response to the presence or absence of a stop of the compressor and the presence or absence of opening or closing of a door up to a predetermined time from a start of operating the compressor. SOLUTION: The method for controlling the refrigerator comprising a compressor 1 to be controlled at is rotational speed, a compressor drive integrating timer 1d for integrating a driving time of the compressor 1, a door opening/closing detector 3 for detecting opening/closing of the door, an indoor temperature detector 4 for detecting an indoor temperature, and a controller 1c for repeatedly controlling the drive and stop of the compressor 1 and variably controlling the rotational speed of the compressor 1 comprises the step of variably controlling the speed of the compressor 1 at a predetermined value in response to the presence or absence of the stop of the compressor 1 up to a predetermined time from the start of operating the compressor 1 and the presence or absence of the opening/closing of the door based on the detected indoor temperature.
