Over an interval, filtrate is collected in a buffer tank (5). Start and end of the interval are selected such that final filtrate concentration in diluent, especially water, in the tank, is no less than a desired value (S). Collected filtrate is then drained off via a line (4). An Independent claim is included for corresponding filtration equipment. Preferred features: During the interval, filtrate is circulated in the buffer tank. Concentration of the filtrate led off, is reduced to the desired value by dosed addition of water into the outlet line (4). Filtration aid is deposited in the filter (2) over an interval, using water (V). The water is forced through the filter by supplying unfiltered feed (U). A mixture with increasing unfiltered feed concentration results. Water is disposed of via an outlet line (23), until a threshold value (W) is reached. Following the end of a filtration phase, unfiltered fluid is forced through the filter using water, resulting in a mixture with rising concentration of feed material in water. The filter is flushed with water; then during a change-over interval, the water is forced from the filter using a second unfiltered fluid. A mixture with rising concentration of the latter arises. Further modes of operation based on the foregoing principles are described.
