PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a falling type ice making apparatus capable of more reliably defrosting. SOLUTION: When a defrost step starts, a compressor in a refrigeration cycle is stopped from feeding a low temperature refrigerant into a cooling pipe or hot gas is fed. This accelerates the temperature rise of ice on an ice making surface or the melting enough to de-ice. After starting the defrost step, remaining ice making water is drooped over ice on an ice making surface for a specified time T. This flows the remaining ice making water into a melting zone between ice and the ice making surface, thereby quickly raising the ice temperature to 0 degree and flowing an ice melting water originating a surface tension to result in more accelerated deicing. After the specified time T elapsed, water flowing onto a deicing surface starts with a deicing water falling to raise the ice temperature on the ice making surface, thereby accelerating the deicing.
