<p>In a business model for a computer network, a single distributor establishes and maintains one or more main databases of products, creates and subsequently services and maintains a commerce site that can interact with the database for each of multiple vendors. While there is a database associated with each of the commerce sites, the individual site databases need not contain detailed product information but rather only pointers or indices to detailed product information in the main database(s). Thus, unnecessary redundancy in the system is avoided. Further, the system and method has the capacity to monitor the individual processing elements of the network; and, based on that activity, to determine the conditions under which adjustments should be made to enhance efficiency; and to partially or entirely, as necessary, recreate the sites on a different processing element or elements of the network in a quick and easy-to-implement manner using scripting language programming.</p> |
