摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor laser that can read and write data to and from a mini disk, a magnetooptical disk, or the like, has low output, produces less noise, and can obtain high output of 20 mW or larger, and to provide a manufacturing method of the semiconductor laser. SOLUTION: The semiconductor laser is provided with an active layer 4, having an emission region in stripe structure, clad layers 3, 5, and 8 provided at both sides, while sandwiching the active layer; and an end face that is formed at both the ends of the stripe of the emission region, radiates one portion of light being generated in the emission region, and at the same time reflects the remainder for amplifying within the active layer. Also, the semiconductor laser is provided with a means for preventing generation of the phenomenon of allowing light output radiated from one of the end faces being changed by a change in current which is applied to the active layer 4 to have coherent minimum value, for example, within a range of 2-7 mW, and for causing the light output to decrease to the increase of current within a range of 25 mW or lower.
