摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device which can be formed in a thin plate form; which permits a display excellent in gradation, high contrast, and response; and which can realize a high resolution full color display. SOLUTION: By filling each display cell 100 with transparent insulating liquid 108 as well as plural colored electrophoretic particles 109 in the space enclosed by a front substrate 101 made of a transparent material, a back substrate 102 arranged opposing the front substrate, and partitions 103, and applying a prescribed voltage by a cell driver 110 to electrodes 104, 105 concentrically formed on the back substrate 102, a display device constituted by arranging plural display cells in a matrix form controls the migration of the colored electrophoretic particles 109 so that the colored electrophoretic particles 109 are selectively brought into such plural state as a 1st state in which the colored electrophoretic particles 109 are aggregated in the central part in the direction of the inner surfaces of the front substrate 101 and the back substrate 102 according to a video signal, a 2nd state in which they are diffused in the direction of the inner surface, and a 3rd state which is an intermediate state between the 1st and 2nd states.
