PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce vibration generated when an internal combustion engine is automatically started, through decompression operation, and create a primary explosion at a small number of revolutions. SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine for a hybrid type automobile is stopped during as stop of a vehicle and restarted during acceleration. The intake valve of the internal combustion engine comprises a lift.actuation angle varying mechanism to continuously change a lift.actuation angle; and a phase varying mechanism to change a central angle Φ of a lift. Right before a stop of the engine, control is effected at a small lift and a small actuation angle into a state that an IVC is further widely advanced than a bottom dead center. In this state, cranking for re-starting is effected. Since the IVC is brought into a state being in the middle of a suction stroke, decompression operation is obtained and the occurrence of vibration during starting is suppressed. Simultaneously, since it is brought into a low lift state, though the number of revolutions is low, a velocity of flow of intake air is high, gas fluid is brought into an active state, and reaches primary explosion. |
