PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smooth a change between a power circulation mode and a direct coupling mode by compensating for torque shift during changing an operation mode. SOLUTION: A speed change control unit 80 for controlling a continuously variable transmission with an infinite gear ratio having a toroidal continuously variable transmission mechanism 2 for a continuous change in total gear ratio from forward to reverse, speed change means to be driven by a step motor 36 for changing the gear ratio of the continuously variable transmission 2 and the step motor 36 in response to an operated condition variably controls the coupling capacity of a clutch to be coupled or a clutch to be released, out of a power circulation mode clutch 9 and a direct coupling mode clutch 10, depending on the direction of transmitting torque during changing the operation mode.
