PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mode change control device for a continuously variable transmission with an infinite gear ratio, allowing smooth mode change control by continuously changing a clutch coupling capacity in accordance with a change in IVT gear ratio equivalent value while keeping a total clutch coupling capacity almost constant in a mode change control region without giving occupants a sense of hunching incongruity due to up-and-down control during mode change. SOLUTION: In the mode change control region before arrival at a rotation synchronizing point, a released clutch control pressure is feedback controlled in accordance with the IVT gear ratio equivalent value and a coupled clutch control pressure is proportionally controlled to be increased in accordance with engine torque. In the mode change control region after arrival at the rotation synchronizing point, the released clutch control pressure is proportionally controlled to be decreased in accordance with the engine torque and the coupled clutch control pressure is feedback controlled in accordance with the IVT gear ratio equivalent value.
