PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a counterweight mechanism for a check valve that can easily open a valve element against a controlled fluid in a positive direction and easily close the valve element while a small flow rate of fluid flows in the opposite direction. SOLUTION: A valve element 12 is disposed in a valve casing 11 so as to pivot on the axis of a horizontal valve stem 13 and to swing between a full closing position and a full opening position. An arm 14 swingable on the axis of the valve stem 13 integrally therewith is inclined to the vertical at a given angle in the closing direction of the valve element 12 when the valve element 12 is in the full closing state. The arm 14 is mounted on one end with a counterweight 15 swingable on the axis thereof.
