The invention relates to a method for determining the volume of liquid in a container, whereby: a given amount (n) of a test medium is introduced into a container; the test medium is mixed with the liquid; the concentration (c) of the test medium in the mixture of liquid and test medium is determined; and the volume is determined based on the given amount (n) and the concentration (c) according to the formula: V = n/c.
