PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitor control system for paths in an ATM switch for a monitor conducting maintenance and operation where no special expertise is required and to provide monitor control method for paths in an ATM switch and a recording medium. SOLUTION: The ATM switch is provided with OCH(OAM Cell Handlers) 4 that transmit an OAM (Operation And Maintenance) cell to paths in the ATM switch and monitor the transmitted OAM cell by looping back the transmitted OAM cell and with a controller 5 that applies an OAM cell transmission instruction to the OCH 4, receives a monitor report of the OAM cell transmitted from the OCH 4 and avoids a faulty path after locating the faulty path.
