PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a device and method of a simple constitution for measuring the amount of deflection in tires capable of easily measuring the amount of deflection in the direction of tire width of the tires mounted to a motor vehicle. SOLUTION: The base 16A of the device 10A for measuring the amount of deflection in the tire width is fixed by magnetic force to a rim 14 in the vicinity of the tire 12A at a section to receive grounding pressure from a road surface. The base 16B of the other device 10B for measuring the amount of deflection in the tire width is fixed to a rim 14 in the vicinity of the tire 12B at a section not to receive grounding pressure from the road surface. A slide bar 26A is moved in the direction of the tire width and brought into contact in the direction of the tire width with the side part of the tire 12A to measure the amount of protrusion. The amount of protrusion in the direction of the tire width in the tire 12B at a section not to receive grounding pressure from the road surface is similarly measured. The difference between the measured amounts of protrusions is obtained to obtain the amount of deflection in the width of the tire 12. By this, it is possible to measure the amount of deflection in the tire width easily.
